In recent years, many studies have proven the drastic improvement a whole plant food diet and holistic lifestyle can have on Type II Diabetes as well as other conditions ranging from high cholesterol, high blood pressure, IBS, allergies, migraines and more. Animal fat, particularly cholesterol, which is only produced by animals and humans, is a significant risk factor to many of these.
This leads me to my story and why am so passionate about a whole plant food, holistic lifestyle and empowering others to take control of their health naturally and for good. 8 years ago I was on 7-8 medications on any given day. The conditions ranged from IBS to Migraines to Depression and Anxiety. I was 23 pounds over weight and had fluctuations in my cholesterol. I knew that both were negative indicators of my future health.
I started researching how food and nutrition can address symptoms of Autism and ADHD for family and found myself drawn towards information around my own health and how I could have more control over my conditions and more importantly to me, over the future quality of life and longevity.
I slowly started “cleaning” my diet by removing such things as processed foods, artificial colors, artificial flavors, preservatives. I started to feel better and have more energy. I also started noticing symptoms to my allergies and asthma disappearing. The frequency of my migraines also decreased significantly. Then I started transitioning to organic produce and meats. I was adding more vegetables and whole grains into my daily diet. I was feeling amazing. The migraines completely disappeared. My mood started changing. My IBS, for which doctors told me I’d only had the options of surgery or being on medication for the rest of my life, was fading away. I was in heaven.
As I became more excited with this new life, I also incorporated more self-care for reducing the enormous amount of stress I placed on myself constantly. I was learning how stress is a major contributing factor for almost all chronic conditions and I was always stressed. Stress has been proven to cause inflammation which is also at the root of many conditions including high cholesterol, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes and more.
By practicing self-care such as meditation, yoga, running, walking, laughing, loving, feeling gratitude and more, my whole state of being started to make a major shift. I no longer felt helpless about the direction my life was going. I no longer blamed the world for my woes. I no longer needed my medications...
I then made the shift to become a “vegequarian”. This is a term a vegetarian friend of mine gave to the idea that I did not eat meat except for seafood. This made the transition easier for me because I felt like I could still have an “easy” protein option, without spending a lot of energy worrying about such an issue and at the same time start weaning slowly.
I did this for 3 years before my most recent stage of transition, eliminating all animal products including seafood and dairy. This was a major shift for me because it is something I’ve wanted to do for quite a while but I just was not ready emotionally.
Since most of our eating habits are emotional - and not necessarily based on nutritional needs, I had to make all of these transitions at my own pace. I felt that by making all of these changes slowly I was able to reflect internally as to how I felt about the change and how I would handle them. I especially was able to deal with the social aspects to changing my diet, which for me was a challenge. I was much more prepared emotionally so that when I finally took each “next” step, the only thing left was the physical implementation and it was so much easier. Cheese was one of the things that I didn’t want to let go of for many different reasons. But I found that as I decreased it slowly, I reached a point where I was so passionate about what it was doing to my health and body that I could easily let it go.
This “phased” approach to a whole plant food diet is exactly how my program is built. Since each person can work through changes at different paces, this program is also offered at different levels. I offer the system, support and accountability necessary at each level to confidently change your life for good. I will explain more about these options at the end of this report.
The result from all of this is that I am no longer on ANY medications - NOT A SINGLE ONE! I live life like I am flying on a cloud...my mood is great, my energy is high...OH! And did I also mention that within the first year of this whole experience, I lost all of the extra 23 pounds I was carrying around without that even being my focus?
